What was your first job?

I was 16 when I got my first summer job working in a wee grocery shop back home, which was just across the road from my family home. At 19, I moved from Poland to the UK and started working at The Hub as a waitress. Since then, I have moved up the career ladder to become the event manager and recently the senior event sales coordinator.

What are the highlights of your career so far?

There are definitely a few, however, the main one was being promoted to a trainee event manager, as this is when my career in events really begun. I am so grateful for all the opportunities I have been given at The Hub since then.

What do you love about your job?

There are 2 things that I love about my job:

  1. In events, you are faced with different challenges every day and no one day is the same.
  2. I believe that people create the workplace and so the other highlight is definitely having the opportunity to work with and learn from so many talented, fun and caring colleagues.

What is your best tip for those who want to enter your field?

Two key things are needed in order to become successful in the events industry: passion and common sense!

What are your tips for a successful event?

Listen carefully, pay attention to detail and respect the people you work with, as team effort is the key to a successful event.

What is the best piece of advice you have been given?

Great things are not done by impulse, but a series of small things brought together.

What’s your favourite place in Edinburgh?

Among many beautiful places, it has to be Arthur’s Seat. You cannot beat the beautiful view you get when you climb to the top!

What is your most treasured possession?

The necklace my Granny gave me when I was 10 years old – it always brings me luck when I need it.

Who would you like to meet?

I love watching movies, so Pedro Almodóvar would be my choice. His films are controversial & abstract, which makes them different to what other directors’ offer and interesting at the same time.

What is your favourite treat from Cafe Hub?

It has to be the salted caramel latte – I cannot imagine staring my day without it!
