Once a month we profile someone from our team and introduce them so that you can get to know us better. This month, we’ve chosen our General Manager, Fi Morley.

What was your first job?
A paper round when I was 14!! And essentially I’ve been working ever since! However, my first ‘proper job’ was as a restaurant manager at a resort hotel in the New Forest.

What are the highlights of your career so far?
Serving Desmond Tutu with hot chocolate – it’s a very long story. I am proud to say that I have had the honour of looking after various members of the Royal Family, organising the Royal Garden Party, a certain Scottish Royal Wedding, a Papal visit and politicians, but I am in awe of what Archbishop Desmond Tutu has achieved and stood up for in his life.

What do you love about your job?
I love the fact that every day is different, and every month brings different challenges and projects to work on. It is a constantly changing sector, with different budgets, customer requirements and trends influencing what we need to do to win the business and keep ahead of the game.

What is your best tip for those who want to have a career in events?
Say yes to every opportunity, get as much experience as you can across the board in a range of positions and have lots of energy.

What are your tips for a successful event?
Organisation, an eye for detail, a sense of humour, and a great deal of energy.

What is the best piece of advice you have been given?
Listen to your intuition.

What’s your favourite place in Edinburgh?
I love all the different small cafes and individual restaurants we have here, and the local markets and the street food events that are popping up everywhere.

What is your most treasured procession?
My Grandmother’s ring, she was a silversmith and made it herself. I wear it every day.

Who would you like to meet?
Mel and Sue ex of #GBBO ……how much fun would that be?!

What is your favourite treat from the Cafe Hub?
I love our Scottish Sharing Platter, washed down with a glass or two of prosecco!
