How long has your business been going and what do you offer?

88 Events was established in 1995. We primarily manufacture and rent luxury table linen for events, parties and weddings. Although we’re based in Scotland, we ship our table linens nationwide. We also supply table-top items such as charger plates, glassware, candelabras and Chiavari chairs.

88 Events also designs and plans events from start to finish. The vast majority of our clients are ‘in the trade’, so we work with venues like The Hub, as well as hotels, caterers, event agencies, and wedding planners.

What do you love about your job?

I love helping clients create visually stunning events. If I’m onsite, seeing the look on their faces when they enter the room for the first time is such a thrill. For clients who dry-hire, seeing their letters of thanks and online reviews is very satisfying as it shows we must be doing something right!

What is your best tip for those who want to enter your field?

You really need to love hospitality. At the end of the day, we’re only here to serve our clients so if that doesn’t want to make you jump out of bed bright and early each day, the industry is probably not for you.

What is the most memorable event you’ve worked on?
There’s been so many amazing ones that it’s hard to choose. If I’m pushed, it’s probably a toss-up between the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles and a week-long global product launch for which we won two awards.

What are your tips for a successful event?

Plan, plan and plan again. If you’re not organised, you run the risk of not being able to deal with things if something goes wrong (…and invariably something will go wrong!).

What’s your favourite room at The Hub?
The Main Hall without a doubt. The design and colour scheme is so unique.

For whom would you most like to organise an event?

One of the Kardashians. It would be interesting to see what we could do with a ‘stupid money’ budget.

What tune gets the most people dancing?
Has to be ‘Stayin’ Alive’ by the Bee Gees

What’s your favourite place in Edinburgh?

Tom Kitchin’s Scran and Scallie. The best gastro-pub in the country!

What advice would you give your twenty-year-old self?

Don’t act like you know everything!
