Once a month we profile someone from our team and introduce them so that you can get to know us better. This month, it is our event sales coordinator’s turn – meet Kathryn Arthur.
I worked in a café when I was 16, doing the same things I did when I started in Cafe Hub, before I progressed to the sales team.
What are the highlights of your career so far?
The Hub is really my first proper job, but the experience I have gained here has been invaluable. It has been a privilege to be a part of the high profile events we have hosted and working with the International Festival team on the run up and throughout August is always very exciting.
What do you love about your job?
I love the fact that we hold so many events that are so different from one another, and that I get to be involved in these events is just amazing. Getting to work with new people every day in an ever-changing, fast paced environment has to be most the exciting aspect. We also have a fantastic team who have progressed through The Hub so it’s been a great journey working with each other throughout.
What is your best tip for those who want to work in event management?
Flexibility is key – unforeseeable things happen all the time in the events industry and you need to be prepared for change and to think on your feet. Even when you feel most prepared, details have the ability to change so fast and it’s important not to stress but just to manage and work with the changes.
What are your tips for a successful event?
Communication is the most important aspect of this job. Never be afraid to mention even the smallest details. Tasks we carry out every day are not commonplace for everyone hosting events, so make sure all details are treated with care and taken into consideration.
What is the best piece of advice you have been given?
Happiness is temporary but contentment is for life. It may sound cliché but it has always stuck with me.
What’s your favourite place in Edinburgh?
For me its Inverleith Park. Walking is my favourite thing and it’s just the best setting for it.
What is your most treasured possession?
My family are massively into crafts such as stitching & knitting – the items I have been given over the years are so special to me.
Who would you like to meet?
For me this would be the singer P!NK . I grew up listening to her music and we share a common interest in trapeze and aerial acrobatics, something I have started to pursue this year and absolutely love doing.
What is your favourite treat from Cafe Hub?
Nothing beats a coffee and breakfast roll combination.
