Once a month we profile someone from our team and introduce them so that you can get to know us better. This month, it is our senior event manager’s turn.
What was your first job?
As a kid, I used to help my granddad on the farm every summer. I arrived home with a bag of vegetables every day as my pay! I loved every minute of it and it taught me about hard work from a young age.
Working as Front of House Manager for the last four Festivals has been great. I’ve had the chance to work with a lot of incredible people and be a part of something special. The Hub has played host to some world class performers and being even a small part of that is always exciting.
What do you love about your job?
I love that there is a variety of work, the team ethic and being able to work with a lot of incredibly talented and knowledgeable people.
What is your best tip for those who want to do your line of work?
Work hard, make sure you enjoy it and take all the opportunities to learn!
What do you do in your spare time?
I love to referee Rugby. I’m very fortunate with the opportunities that I have been given to travel and be part of some big occasions. The two that stand out for me were being involved with Hong Kong 7s on two occasions and refereeing France U-19s v England U-19s in Lyon.
I’m also from a big cricket playing family too, so I play as much as I can for my home team, Gala.
What is the best piece of advice you have been given?
Mum and Dad have always taught me to work hard and no matter how big the setback, not to be beaten! It has always stuck with me, in both sport and life.
What’s your favourite place in Edinburgh?
I love running and my favourite route is along the Beach at Portobello.
What is your most treasured possession?
I love my sporting memorabilia, so probably my University of Edinburgh cricket cap!
Who would you like to meet?
As a big cricket fan I would probably love to meet Sir Viv Richards or Ricky Ponting. They’re both great players and leaders, both incredibly mentally tough and took a challenge head on!
What is your favourite treat from the Hub café?
I quite enjoy the Peppermint Latte!
