I went for one weeks work experience as part of my college course and stayed for four years! I gained invaluable experience in areas such as customer service, staff management, stock control and many others. The mentors I had in the Usher Hall were fantastic and I cannot thank them enough for the opportunities they gave me and the skills I left with.

What are the highlights of your career so far?

Managing the sales team we have now at The Hub is truly a career highlight. Each member of the team has a passion for the venue and delivering top quality events to our clients. I have just returned from maternity leave and am delighted with the feedback we have received while I have been away. I cannot wait to build on this.

What do you love about your job?

I love the variety of my job. Every day presents a new opportunity to develop our relationships and showcase this incredible venue. I also love producing something we have never done before.

What is your best tip for those who want to enter business development?

Keep an open mind. Even if something seems impossible chances are there is a way to deliver it.

What are your tips for a successful event?

No matter how much you prepare, almost every event will produce a new challenge you hadn’t anticipated. Staying calm under pressure and engaging your suppliers and colleagues usually can help you overcome any obstacle.

What is the best piece of advice you have been given?

I once read that the majority of people listen to others with a view to respond rather than understand. I try to ensure that I am always fully engaged in a conversation following this and not just thinking of on my response.

What’s your favourite place in Edinburgh?

Definitely Arthur’s Seat. I was born in Leith, grew up in Fife, had my first flat with my husband in Meadowbank, work on the Royal Mile and am now raising my family in Fife, so the view from the top reads like my life story.

What is your most treasured possession?

I have a cross stich my Granny made for me when I was born which I treasure. I am also lucky enough to have some beautiful pieces of jewellery given to me over the years by people I love.

Who would you like to meet?

There are so many people who inspire me in different ways. I would love to meet Sheryl Sandberg and Baroness Michelle Mone – I would have so much to ask them about their success and their experience of being women at the top.

What is your favourite treat from the Cafe Hub?

Our coffee selection is amazing! In the summer months, the Cafe team make an brilliant iced, vanilla latte.
