A gala dinner is the perfect occasion to dress your best, put on your dancing shoes and prepare for a fantastic night of delicious food and entertainment in a beautiful setting. Our spectacular Main Hall, with its astonishing design, is one of Edinburgh’s best locations for large banquets, celebrations, gala dinners and business events – so we like to consider ourselves experts on all things gala. That’s why we’ve prepared our top picks of successful gala dinners, designed to knock the socks off your guests.
A feast fit for kings and queens – a Scottish Banquet
As a well known Edinburgh landmark, we’d be remiss not to pay homage to our Scottish roots and start with the iconic Scottish Banquet. In true banquet style, a gala dinner in Scotland offers guests an opportunity to experience some true Scottish Hospitality, including some fabulous entertainment. From a piper on arrival, to a Scottish ceilidh band and highland dancers, you’ll be the talk of the town!
You can’t go wrong with a lavish menu, including a whisky dram, to showcase the best of Scotland’s cuisine – after all, we have the finest salmon and haggis in the world! Our Taste of Scotland package is the perfect choice for your next gala dinner.
A night to remember – the Masquerade ball
A time-honoured favourite for many a large celebration is, of course, the masquerade ball. The stylish theme demands a bold venue for the occasion and the entertainment to match. Be sure to choose a venue that has great acoustics, as a string quartet or a harpist during dinner can really build a romantic and dramatic atmosphere for your evening. With Masquerade ball tents a favourite on Pinterest, a canopy set up in our Main Hall can provide the look and feel of a canopy party no matter the weather!
Masquerade balls are also known for their bold choice of colours, with touches of gold or silver to compliment your choice.
An evening at the Moulin Rouge – a Parisian soirée
While ‘sparkling diamonds’ immediately spring to mind, room dressing plays a crucial role in bringing this theme to life. Deep red and black is a must for any Moulin Rouge event, along with lighting in colours that lift the mood for a carnival atmosphere. The benefit of hosting your event in our vibrant Main Hall is the full use of our events team, who will take care of all the finer details to ensure your event is perfect.
Though, perhaps the most important part of the evening is the entertainment, which our event planners can also secure for you! From burlesque dancers that look like they are straight from the famous Parisian venue, to acrobatic shows, The Hub can host an assortment of Moulin Rouge inspired entertainment.
A Grand Gala – an opulent affair
Sometimes a spacious beautiful venue is all you need for a grand evening and the grand gala theme brings a lot of room for creativity and experimentation. All you need for a lavish gala dinner is stunning centrepieces, grand lighting, red carpets, and beautiful décor to offer a sophisticated atmosphere for your guests.
Live entertainment can feature singing, ballroom dancing, and extravagant stage shows. To offer your guests the true star treatment, you’ll need a red carpet at the entrance and champagne on arrival.
Our experienced events team is expert in delivering unforgettable gala dinners for guests. The Main Hall is a large space, accommodating a maximum number of 300 for dinner with the stage removed, or up to 250 with the stage in place.
Vibrant colours and contemporary design, incorporating original features and modern styling, create an atmospheric and truly memorable event space. Overlooking the Main Hall on three sides is a spacious Gallery, a beautiful and exciting space in itself, ideal for pre-dinner drinks, and our Dunard Library with its built in bar is the ideal late night escape.
